Cheap Flights

There are dozens of websites useful for finding low cost airline fares.  I’ve used Expedia, Orbitz, and Kayak for years.  Others include Airfarewatchdog, Flightfox, Skyscanner, Priceline, and CheapOAir

There are  a  few additional strategies that may help you find are better deals such as: 1) booking 5-6 months before travel, 2) departing from a large hub such as Dallas or Atlanta instead of a regional hub (this also applies to destinations because some cities have more than one airport), 3) flying on a multicity itinerary (i.e., Atlanta-Frankfurt-Mumbi and then Mumbi-London-Atlanta), and 4) accepting a flight with a layover in lieu of a direct flight.

When you book flights, be sure the name on your ticket is an exact match with what appears on your passport (i.e., use “Thomas” instead of “Tom).  Some airlines may deny boarding if the name on your ticket doesn’t match your passport.

Finally, if you don’t like your assigned seat, find a better one.  Most airline websites permit you to move your seat, provided that it's within the cabin where you’re booked.  I prefer a window seat distant from restrooms.  My favorites are bulkhead and exit row seats that have more space.
